Bourjois Paris Duochrome Eye Pencil 58 Noir Bleute: Swatch & Review

Review by Poorna

Hey! I have really been working my way through eye pencils available in India, and recently I came across a gem in the form of Bourjois Duochrome range. The Duochrome range is like two colors in one, and some of the combos I loved included green and gold (Verte Dore), blue and black (Noir Bleute) and emerald green and black (Noir Emeraudo). The reflection is two toned, and it is definitely not something very commonly seen.

So I was checking out many kinds of blue eye pencil colors from Westside, and I was looking at some Chambor and Max Factor stuff, when suddenly this girl from the Bourjois counter leans over and says, “Ma’am you know what, I have got just the thing you want”, and I raised my eyebrows at her, but followed her all the same. She just fished out a handful of eyeliners and pointed me towards the Duochrome, and just swatched one on my hand, and I was totally sold by it.
Because, it was one of those colors which just looks perfect on my skin tone.

What the Company Claims on its Website:“2 TONE REFLECTION FOR INCREDIBLY CAPTIVATING EYES. A PALETTE OF ORIGINAL SHADES WITH 2 TONE REFLECTION. A colour spectrum effect. The duochrome effect is created by shimmer particles that change colour in the light. With highly concentrated pigments, it highlights eyes with intense and luminous shades. A gliding, soft lead. The comfortable, smooth and easy-to-blend formula, enriched with natural wax, makes easy application and intense colour in one stroke.”
Here is how it looks on the promotional photos at the site.

I would have to agree with everything that has been claimed here.
The problem I had with the pencil I bought (the blue-black btw, called Noir Bleute) was the fact that I have to sharpen it when it gets dull. But, that is the ONLY factor which I dislike. I like everything else about this product. I like the fact that it can be sharpened by normal pencil sharpeners as well as makeup sharpeners. The other thing that I would like to add is that the pencil is highly pigmented, and with one swipe you can get a gorgeous blue-black color on your eyelids. The application IS indeed easy, with the color beautifully reflecting on the eyes. The color glided on and did not smudge at all for the next few hours.

The colors actually blend perfectly on my eyes, and I can use it safely on my waterline. It actually stays on my waterline for around 6-7 hours easily, and that is a big thing for me, because I have very oily skin and in general any liner I put on my waterline gets smudged and rubbed off within 2-3 hours. This stuck, though. I have also blended this with my eyeshadow, using it as a base, and it does not take more than 30 seconds to blend this in with the end of a smudger, and then proceeding with the makeup routine. This gives my eyes a smoky, blue-black eyeshadow effect which I like, btw.
Though you guys would probably hate the swatch, because somehow though I tried, I could not get the effect right, where the blue and the black could be distinctly be seen.
Here is the color inside my room.

Do you see the slightly blackish tone merging with the blue? Well, there are little tiny shimmer dots which actually make my eyes look bigger and brighter.
Daylight. Outside.
Now here the particles are more visible, and yes, please stop laughing at my effects to paint. I received 30/100 in my final drawing test, and then I bade it adieu and breathed a sigh of relief.
So, let me rate this for you.
My Ratings: 4.5/5
The -.5 is for the wastage I face every time I sharpen this, and my heart goes … eek… eek… wasting wasting wasted! Otherwise, I would recommend this to everyone (I have recommended this to my best friend, and she loves it more than I do). It is perfect for virtually all kinds of skin, and will look good on anyone.
