Review by Vandana
What the product claims: silky base adds a sheer, matte texture in one smooth layer. May be used all over the face or in the T-zone to reduce the appearance of shine and to smooth the surface of the skin.
ETM Edit* That sounds like a nice primer Vandana.I have only used the ELf primer till date which is again silicone based like this one.Now i want to try a silicone free one soon. BTW I've not yet read "The memoirs of a geisha". Just recalled hubby has got a 500/- voucher from flipkart. ;) Will get this book only now. :D
Hey everyone,
Before i became beauty blog addict, the
only primer I knew was the one we apply before applying paint. :P so, I was
very much intrigued by this product, and I had this perception in my mind that
only those people use primer who apply lots of makeup. The word primer somehow
takes me to "The memoirs of a geisha" one of my all time fav. Book and movie.
If you don’t have the patience to read the books then watch the movie at least.
Okay okay!! I know I am drifting away from the topic. Let’s start with the
review of modicare’s esensual silky base which is basically a foundation primer,
I had bought along with the neem and rosemary cream which i am going to review next. When I
bought it I had no idea that primer’s were so useful, the consultant literally
shoved it on my nose, she applied it all over
on my hands, my face, my neck :P and when I touched my face it felt baby
smooth. The name is apt “silky base” my face really felt like silk. :) I am not much of a foundation girl (read I can never apply
foundation properly :P) but when I topped my foundation with this, blending
became easier. For the first time I achieved a proper matte finish. Yaay to that!!
What the product claims: silky base adds a sheer, matte texture in one smooth layer. May be used all over the face or in the T-zone to reduce the appearance of shine and to smooth the surface of the skin.
Usage: Apply silky base after moisturizer but before foundation to prime
the skin for makeup.
Price: 525 for 30 ml.
Ingredients: dimethicone, isododecane, cyclopentasiloxane, dimethicone cross
polymer, trisiloxane, BHT.
Packaging: it comes in a white tube with screw on cap, nothing really fancy
but then I like it specially the nozzle. I have always been fond of realistic
packaging :)
My experience:
This is my first primer and I am really
impressed. It’s my go to product whenever I am applying makeup. It prepares my
skin really well, covers the imperfections and gives a satin smooth finish. I
always make it a point to apply moisturiser underneath since I have dry skin.
It has clear, thick, gel type consistency, it spreads well and I need very
small quantity. It works pretty quickly and gets absorbs in a jiffy. It works
well for my sister as well; she has oily acne prone skin. She skips her
moisturiser when using this.
Pros:
- It does what it claims. Provides sheer, matte finish. So full marks for that. :)
- Fragrance , colour and paraben free
- Silicon free but then dimethicone is no less. :P
- Useful for both oily and dry skin.
- Makes my skin super smooth. : heart:
- Foundation spreads easily and blends effortlessly.
- Makeup stays fresh for long.
- Little products goes a long way.
- You can buy it from the modicare website online.
Cons
- Gives no brightening effect.
- Does nothing about the pore size.
- Contains dimethicone.
- Price may be little steep but then 30 ml. goes a long way.
- Finding a modicare consultant is difficult if you are not comfortable with online shopping.
Final verdict: I believe we have scarcity
of good and affordable primer’s in India and this one does its job pretty well.
So, if you are on a look out for a good makeup base, or if you always find
blending pain in the neck, then this is the product for you.
Do I recommend it: definitely.
Will I buy it again: If ever I finish it. :)
Rating: 4.5/5
P.s: If you are not satisfied with the
product, they will refund the full amount. The condition is that you have to
return it within 7 days plus you should not have used more than 25 % of the
product. :)
