MAC Matchmaster Foundation: Swatch, Review and FOTD

Review by Ramya
Aww….what do I say about a foundation from MAC! This is my first MAC product and I love her to the core. I am kind of obsessed with it these days. 🙂 Let me take you through this in detail.
What MAC says? New Foundation technology using translucent pigments to enable a fully personalized finish influenced by the subtleties of your own skin’s undertone. Moisturizing semi-matte finish. Medium buildable coverage. Line-reducing soft-focus powders.

Composition:

How she looks?
This comes in a long glass bottle with a pump dispenser. So we need not get a dispenser separately like for few other MAC foundations. It has a twist-round lock, which makes it simple and safe to carry it while travelling. The glass body is quite sturdy.

I am holding the shade 5.0. I feel it is a perfect match for my skin tone. I generally need 1 pump for both my face and neck, if I want a medium coverage. Else, I need 2 pumps.

How much does she cost? Rs 2100 for 3.5 ml

Her Texture and fragrance: The texture of this foundation is quite creamy. It is slightly thick as well, not much though. It has SPF in it. So, blending it with fingers is quite difficult at times. Though I have seen review on this with people applying with their fingers, but I am really comfortable applying it with my Coastal scents foundation brush. Even working out with a sponge would be fine.
And talking about the fragrance, I feel it somewhat like a nail polish fragrance, though not annoying at all. It doesn’t stay there!

My Take on her:As everyone else would be, I too was very excited about my first MAC product and that too being a foundation. When I started using this, it has taken me 2 days to actually understand the way of using it. Initially within the first 2 attempts I have understood that it is really difficult for me to blend it with my fingers. Next I have tried using a damp sponge, it was quite good. But my hands were paining while stippling it with damp sponge. So finally landed with my foundation brush and hurray….I could then get what I really wanted. Till then though I knew that I am unable to make it out perfectly with fingers and sponge, again I also was having a doubt if I had chosen a wrong shade. Finally when I have achieved the perfect look, I was quite happy.

Coverage: Regarding coverage, I was expecting this to be a full coverage foundation. But I can say that this gives light – medium coverage. With two pumps, I get a good medium coverage. I can for surely say that this isn’t a heavy coverage foundation.

It covers the acne scars, pigmentation around the mouth area, redness on skin, minor skin rashes etc really well. It doesn’t cover deep scars or under eye area.

Shades: Totally, 14 shades are available as 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, 3.5 ……… so and forth.

Lasting Power: It lasts for around 5 – 6 hrs. After 8 hrs, you seem to be looking like you’ve never had the foundation on you. For the price, I don’t think the staying power is good. With a primer, it will be there for 8 hrs max.

It doesn’t melt. I have tested this on quite a humid day, in a normal indoor environment as well as during a night out. It is perfect under every environment. The best thing I felt was the light-medium coverage and its adaptability to any climatic conditions. This has made it quite unique, as when we wear this on, it looks so soo natural. And it photographs really really well. Though it has SPF, it doesn’t give any fake or ‘white’ look. Awesome! Love <3

Water-Resistant: I observed that it doesn’t melt in humid conditions and at the same time, when we splash water on our face for 4-5 times, then the foundation comes off slowly. Removing this isn’t a pain.
It turns to be a solid base for eye makeup and blushes. It makes them last long. Even a very normal range of eye colours are made to last long when used over the foundation applied face.
Pros:

  • Good sturdy packaging and comes with a dispenser.
  • The natural look it provides when applied on.
  • The colour adaptability – the name says it all.
  • Perfect range of foundation for those who lie in between yellow and pink based undertones.
  • Perfectly evens out the skin.
  • Good under any climatic conditions
  • Doesn’t melt.
  • Suitable for Oily – combination skin types.
  • Photographs well.
  • Removing it off is easy.
  • Has SPF
  • Doesn’t break out at all.
  • 14 Shades available
  • Easily available at all MAC stores.

Cons:

  • The price – must have been a solid coverage foundation for this price.
  • Provides light – medium coverage only.
  • The bottle being a glass one, though sturdy, not preferable to carry during travelling.
  • Staying power is around 5-6 hrs without primer and 8 hrs with primer.
Final verdict: I got it assuming it to be a long lasting heavy coverage foundation, So I was disappointed when I understood that it doesn’t provide heavy coverage and doesn’t last really long. But after using for few times I am happy with the perfect even natural look it provides. Get it, you wont be disappointed. Much suitable for oily – combination skin type. Another awesome hit from MAC! 🙂 🙂

ETM Edit* Nice Review Ramya. It looks pretty natural on you. 🙂 I have tried this at the store and quite liked the texture of it on my skin. But i found it quite easy to blend with fingers as well…May be it glides better on a moisturised face. Try it on after moisturising well and I am sure it will be easy to blend with your fingers as well. But anyways if it works better with a brush then be it! 🙂 I am not much of a foundation person but If i am ever trying a liquid foundation from MAC, I know it has to be Matchmaster only. 😀
