MAC “Fan Fare” Lipstick Swatch, Review and Look
How are you all doing? Its been long since I posted anything here and as much as I missed writing, I was totally bogged down by my busy schedule and travelling. Not to forget the preparation for Diwali and the upcoming holidays. Too much work for this lazy soul. 😛 Anyways I decided to kick off my laziness and do a review and while I was going through my makeup stash I decided to do this lipstick a favor. 😉 Presenting MAC Fan Fare Lipstick from the cremesheen range!
Price: INR 1450/-
My Experience with MAC Fan Fare Lipstick:
MAC describes Fanfare as a mid-tone yellow pink. If you ask me I would say “Fan fare” is a salmon pink with a hint of coral that plays hide and seek in different lights making it a perfect everyday wear color for many! 🙂 Initially I found the shade to be a little too pale for my taste, but slowly it started growing on me and now I heart it and can wear it anytime and anywhere. However the color looks best in evening light when the pink dominates the salmon/yellow tone! If you think it is going to wash you out, you can try it during the late hours or may be pair it with a neutral or pink lip liner. It works perfectly well in both the conditions. 🙂
Also I have seen the color look pretty different on different skin tones. From being a pale pink, to a warm pink to one with a strong coral tint, it all depends on your skin undertone. On me it comes out more pink and that’s the reason it works so well for me even though I was not expecting it to.
The finish being cremesheen, it glides smoothly and easily on lips. It is not drying and keeps lips comfortable through out the wear time. However if you have dry patches on lips then you must take care of it by exfoliating and using a good lip balm before applying “Fan Fare” to avoid patchiness and uneven application. This extra step kind of contradicts the purpose of going for an easy everyday wear lip color, but honestly if you do not suffer from horribly dry lips and take good care of your lips regularly you might not even notice this issue! I do face this problem during dry weather and a lip balm underneath solves it in a minute.
Pigmentation wise “fan fare” does okay IMO. Its not intensely pigmented and I wouldn’t call it semi-sheer as well. It gives opaque coverage in 2-3 swipes covering even the deepest of lip pigmentation easily, but on single swipe it comes out more as a flesh toned light pink that even though does not allow my original lip color to peek through, kind of gives the illusion of bare healthy lips with a hint of color. The creamy finish contributes a lot to the bare-there look.
Staying power of MAC “fan fare” is about 3-4 hours depending on what you eat and drink. A minimum of 3 hours you are certainly expect. Since the formula is prone to highlight dry and rough patches I always carry this color or a lip balm for touch ups. Even a lip gloss on top suits me just fine once the original color starts to fade.
MAC “Fan fare” does not leave behind any strong stain, but just a hint of baby pink on lips.

I have also used “MAC Fan fare” with blue-grey smokey eyes on the post here and I loved how the look turned out with this one. As you can see it goes with neutral as well as heavy makeup. So this is not one of those extreme neutrals that you can only pair with a heavily made up eye. 🙂
The packaging is the same old classy black and silver metal case housing the lipstick that I don’t think needs an introduction. 😛 Its easy to carry around in your bag without much worry.
My Rating: 3.95 out of 5 (for highlighting dry patches and fine lines after a while)
My recommendation: Even though I think this color “Fan fare” would work much better in luster finish, I love how it is so easy to wear. Lustre finish of course wouldn’t give me the punch of color like it does, so I have no complaints really! MAC Fan fare is a great everyday wear color that works on both light and heavy makeup equally well. If you fall under the wheatish to fair skin tone category then “fan fare” would make a lovely neutral pink lipstick for you. Just make sure your lips are well taken care of. 🙂
