Maybelline Dream Matte Powder “Light” Price, Swatch And Review
Earlier when I was not much into makeup, my staple included kajal, lip gloss and compact. Now that I am totally into it, I have reduced the use of kajal and increased the consumption of compact and lipstick! Needless to say, lipsticks do not get over easily, but compacts do. (Thankfully! 😛 ) So I do not mind picking up 2-3 compacts at one go as I like to have options depending on my skin’s behavior and the climate! Today I am going to review the Dream Matte Powder from Mayelline which is perfect for combination-oily skin all year round. 🙂 The shade I have is “Light 4.5”

My Experience with Maybelline Dream Matte Powder:
I have been using this dream matte powder for more than a year now. Initially I did not quite like it, but gradually I have become very fond of this powder compact.
The packaging is functional and very compact with a puff, a nice mirror on the bottom compartment and the powder on top. It took me a while to get used to the mechanism. I have a habit of looking into the mirror of my compact while applying and I would try to flip it open like MAC Studio Fix Compact plus Foundation I am used to! But of course it is not rocket science and you will find yourself adapting to it in a day or two. 🙂
The texture of the powder is very fine and not too soft. The brush needs to be swirled on the powder a good 2-3 times before you get any product on your skin. With time as you scarp off the 1st layer, the job gets easy though! You can see very finely milled shimmer particles in the powder that helps make the finish look not too matte and dull! 🙂 I have noticed the finish looks much better in day light than in night time. There is no SPF, but it imparts a white cast in flash photography, hence its not advisable to use this dream matte powder for night time events where you are going to get clicked.
The finish as I have already mentioned is matte, but not a dry matte. its kind of satiny matte that can be used by all skin types during summer. It controls oil off my T-zone for a good 3-4 hours. If you are oily skin then you can blot or touch up and survive the day easily after the initial 2-3 hours. For combination skin like mine there is no need of touch up as the finish looks very natural with a little shine. For those in humid climate , you need to carry blotting tissue or the powder itself for touch up.

The coverage is sheer and light! The shade “light 4-5” suits my skin really well unless I am tanned. Even when I am, the sheer coverage doesn’t make it look too obvious and it works fine! The range has 3 shades, so you will easily find one for yourself. Even if you pick one shade that is slightly lighter or darker than your skin tone it wouldn’t make much of a difference.
I like the light finish which is the reason it sets base makeup beautifully without looking cakey or heavy! However if you are looking for a compact to minimize the appearance of dark spots and imperfection. this dream matte powder is definitely not for you! It works best when used on top of a base. For everyday wear my BB cream or CC cream under this powder does the trick! 🙂
My Rating: 4 out of 5
My Recommendation: Maybelline Dream Matte Powder, like the name suggests is best suited for those with an oily T-zone or skin. Though it does not keep your skin oil free whole day, but does a good job when compared to other products available in the market. Those with extremely oily skin and residing in a humid climate may not find its oil controlling capabilities good enough for summers, but it will qualify as a good all year round compact for them. For me it is a product that I have used and abused a lot, however I will not repurchase as I like to experiment unless a product performs amazingly well. Definitely give this dream matte powder a try if you are looking for a light everyday use compact with oil control property!
