My Experience with L’Oreal “Pure Garnet” :
I have to be honest. The very first look on these lipsticks and I wanted to try this one first (because of the pretty berry pink color peeking through the packaging) . However one look at the bullet and I was quite disappointed. It looked very brown and I thought it to be another of those deep brownish red aka Maroon. While swatching the shades, the berry was again playing peek-a-boo, so I decided to try it on my lips to crack the exact color! 😉 I was in for a surprise when I got a beautiful mix of wine and berry with a hint of brown.
“Pure Garnet” can definitely be classified as a wine red or even a maroon on the first look, but it has depth that you explore when you use it for a while. I have been testing out these lipsticks for the past 5 days and pure garnet is the only shade that took me so much time to decode the exact color on and off camera. In natural light it appears as a wine red with a strong berry tone. In dull evening light it looks like an oxblood almost gothic red. In warm direct sunlight the brown becomes visible and the color comes out as a deep maroon. When you use it as a stain the color is almost a berry red and this is the shade I love most! <3
L’Oreal Collection Star Lipstick “Pure Garnet” Swatch:
This is the shade that is close to real. On my lips the camera was not able to capture the berry tone and it appears a tad bit more brown than it is.

L’Oreal Collection Star Lipstick “Pure Garnet” Swatch on my lips:
The above intensity needs two swipes. For more intense a color you need to use another one or two swipes, though that would make the color apt for night outs only!
The color would be best suitable for medium and dusky skin tones, but those with fair skin tone can also make it work easily. The thing to keep in mind while wearing such a deep statement color is to keep the makeup minimal and your lips to do all the talking. Fashion wise I feel single color outfits are the best to go with a shade like this. If you are not up for experiments then pair it up with a monochrome white and black outfit and you are sorted. If its a dressy event then of course a wine gown would be just perfect. <3 I am already planning a look around it. Hope my photographer feels like clicking me this weekend! O:)
Pigmentation is mind blowing and one swipe is enough to give you opaque color. Multiple swipes increase the intensity and believe me you can layer it 3-4 times with the tissue-blotting technique to get the most amazing wearable oxblood shade that you have seen Deepika rocking in some of her appearances in 2014. 🙂 I haven’t yet dared to go out with that color on my lips, but I plan to do it soon! May be next weekend for a dinner date. 😀
Ohh btw this color stays on for the entire day without budging. No amount of eating and drinking can make this disappear. Just make sure you blot it with a tissue so that it does not transfer on to your mugs and glasses. The color does tend to feather immediately after application, but sets in a minute or two.
The formula is creamy like the moist matte lipsticks, but not as creamy to keep my lips comfortable for long. Multiple layers can make the dry patches more prominent hence a lip balm underneath is a necessity. If you already have dry lips then definitely exfoliate before you try these lipsticks on because when you remove it, the color still manages to cling to the dry patches.
The finish is matte and I absolutely love the texture of these. Very light weight and packed with pigments.
Coming to the packaging, it is typical to the moist matte range except for the outer case that is black in stead of gold. The presence of the color indicator on the side makes it easy to locate the color you are looking for. Also the lipsticks have the autograph of the stars they belong to which kind of feels nice. 🙂
My Rating: 4.75 out of 5
My Recommendation: If you are looking for an oxblood red then definitely give “Pure Garnet” a try! Personally I am not a fan of maroons and wine reds , but the color along with the finish makes this lipstick a must have for anyone who is open to experiment! L’Oreal Paris Collection Star Lipstick “Pure Garnet” by Sonam Kapoor is definitely one of my favorites and unique colors from the collection star range of lipsticks.
