Paris, a place of love, fashion, and beauty. The city has sparked imaginations in the minds of countless writers and poet. The french girl is considered as an icon of effortless beauty and fashion. They stay on the neutral side when it comes to colors and makeup, at the same time, however, they can carry a bold look with unmatched flair.
What is the secret to their beautiful, yet not so made up look? Come aboard. Let us take a tour of the Parisian chic’s dresser. Shall we?
Here are a few pointers worth mentioning before diving straight into Parisian makeup tutorial.
- With the french, everything starts with a good skin. It is all about looking fresh and natural.
- French women really dig into good skin care and believe in eating clean.
- For them, makeup is all about being the best version of yourself and bringing out your best features.
- They go with the eyes or lips rule. A power lip or smokey eye, the french girl carries it with panache. But either of them, not together.

L’Oreal Hydrafresh Deep Boosting Essence
Price: 599/- INR
Makeup or no makeup, it is very important to hydrate your skin. The moisture forms a protective layer between your skin and makeup and also prevents it from flaking. I would recommend opting for an essence. They are light weight, loaded with goodies and more concentrated in formulation. They get deep into the layers of skin and make it look, plump and healthy.
Application Tip: Take a pea sized amount and pat it gently on clean skin with sanitized fingers. Let it sit for 30-40 seconds.
Suncros Soft Matte Finish Sunscreen SPF 50+
Price: 599/- INR
Sunscreen is a MUST for every skin care regimen. It protects our skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays, thus preventing free radical damage. Again the physical blockers create a barrier between skin and makeup. Want to avoid photo aging? Never miss out on sunscreen.
Application Tip:Take a coin sized amount and dot it on your face and neck. Push it gently into your skin with the help of clean fingers again with a light patting motion. Give it 1-2 minutes to sink in.
- BB/CC Cream:
Deborah BB Cream 5 In 1 Foundation
Price: 625/- INR
Like I said, this makeup look is all about showing what you have got than hiding. Cakey makeup is an absolute no!!! No one owns their skin better than the french. It is better to stay off heavy duty foundations and stick to light weight BB/CC Creams and Tinted Moisturizers.
Application Tip: I would suggest going for a product that is a tad bit lighter than your actual skin tone and focusing just on the center of your face. Dot the product on the center of your face and blend it first with your finger and then with a beauty blender.
Revlon Photoready Skinlights Face Illuminator- Bare Light
Price: 950/- INR
Who does not love a luminous glowing skin? A smart tip would be,add just a little bit of liquid illuminator to your base makeup, preferably in 2:1 ratio ( 2 part base makeup and 1 part illuminator). That will give you a perfect hint of iridescence without making you look like a disco ball.
Application Tip: Mix it with your base up and dot it as mention above. Blend it using fingers and sponge. Add just a little bit of the illuminator on your high points and blend it well. The key is not to be too liberal with it.
- Blush/ Bronzer:
Makeup Revolution Iconic Pro Blush, Bronze and Brighten
Price: 850/- INR
For a day time look, heavy contouring would appear too made up. Instead, go for draping. Draping creates an earthy tone and provides a natural flush to the cheeks.
Application Tip: Get a blush brush. The trick is to take equal parts of blush and bronzer and swipe it very lightly along the sides of your face, starting from temples up till the cheek bones ( in shape of a crescent moon). Now taking the highlighter, gently apply it on high points of your face with the help of a brush.
- Eye Makeup:
Maybelline New York The Nudes Eyeshadow Palette
Price: 899/- INR
Eyes are the most beautiful thing on a woman’s body. You can never go wrong with them. You can always opt for the classic winged look, but for the sake of this tutorial, I am sticking to a smudged casual look.
EYESHADOW-Prime your eyelids and dab a taupe color eye shadow on the center of your eye lids. Now take a light brown color and mix it with a burgundy shade and gently swipe it across your crease, staying more focused on the outer corners.
EYELINER-Now take a matte black color and place it along your upper lash line. Try to stay as close to the lash line as possible. For the final touch take a dark brown shadow and dab it along your lower lash line ( only on the outer half)
EYEBROWS-For the eyebrows, first, tame them with a spoolie. Take a dark brown (or gray ) color and fill in the gaps with very light fingers. Now go over them again with a spoolie or brush to give them a tamed yet natural look.
- Lip Color:
e.l.f. Lip Stain – Berry Blush
Price: 500/- INR
I personally feel ( certain) lipsticks and crayons, somehow create a mess around your mouth. Instead, go for a lip stain. They look more natural and give you a perfect pout. Allways remember to scrub and moisturize your lips prior to any lip color application.
Application Tip: Avoid lining your lips. Just dab the stain on your lips, starting from the center of your lips, then moving towards the outer corners, going from dark to light gradually.
Voila! Nothing feels more comfortable than to be in your own skin. There are no hard and fast rules of makeup. It is all about fun and experimentation. Go all in. Play with colors and find what works best for you.
And remember, always carry a smile. That is the secret ingredient of every soup 😉
